“Why? Why not? Why not you? Why not now?” Answers to these questions could hold the secrets for success in your life. This is the advice given by Jim Rohn, an internationally honored author and entrepreneur, and perhaps the greatest motivational speaker of all time. Born in the mid-1900s to an Idaho farming family, Jim was taught from a young age to observe strict work ethics. At 25 years, Jim met John Earl Shoaff, one of the co-founders of Nutri-Bio, who became his mentor. Jim frequently refers and gives credit to Mr Shoaff in many of his talks and speeches.
For the next six years after working with a mentor, Jim honed his speaking skills and soon he was on his way to building a fortune, losing it, and regaining it. His big moment of success came when he related his personal story of “Idaho Farm Boy Makes It to Beverly Hills” at a Rotary Club gathering in Beverly Hills. This particular speech was so well received that Jim got several invitations to speak at other forums and seminars such as schools, colleges and clubs. This was the start of Jim’s personal-development business – his advice on how self help and personal development could change one’s life. Jim’s visionary insight, philosophy and motivational messages over a period of 37 years reached around 3 million people around the world. In 1985 he received the National Speakers Association CPAE Award. He wrote 17 books and uncountable made audio and video programs, which are mainstream and popular till date, even after his sad demise at 5 December, 2009.
Like a skilled artist, Jim Rohn helped thousands of people the all over the world to improve their personal strategies and live better lives. His spoken elegance laced with common sense is what made Jim one of the most influential thinkers. Even personal-development trainers and some of America’s top corporate executives benefited from Jim’s countless books, video and audio programs. Having started as a stock clerk for Sears and he then moved on to be a distributor of products of AbundaVita and then Nutri-Bio, of which he later was chosen as Vice-President because of his impeccable performance. However, when Nutri-Bio went out of business, Jim went on to conduct seminars for Standard Oil and also be a part of the personal development business, namely ‘Adventures in Achievement’. He later taught more seminars, live personality development workshops and spoke on motivation tours across Europe, Asia, Australia and Africa or should we say pretty much just about everywhere for the next 40 years.
Jim Rohn’s quotes have fired the imagination of many people. He is known as one of the greatest wordsmiths of our time, especially when dwelling on business and the philosophy of life. Some of Jim’s well known quotes are:
Growth: Don’t join an easy crowd. You won’t grow. Go where the expectations and the demands to perform and achieve are high.
Change: We generally change ourselves for one of two reasons: inspiration or desperation.
Skills: Don’t wish it were easier, wish you were better. Don’t wish for less problems; wish for more skills. Don’t wish for less challenges; wish for more wisdom.
Success: Success is what you attract by the person you become.
Activity: The few who dare are the envy of the many who watch.
Jim captured the attention of his audience with his anecdotes, witticisms and a ‘dare to do’ spirit. A Jim Rohn MP3 classic includes topics such as: How to set goals; the day that turns your life around; diseases of attitude; three steps to success in sales; and three basic laws.
