Louise Hay – Self Help Author, Publisher, Speaker
Out of ashes rises the Phoenix is a saying that defines perfectly the life of Louise Hay. Born in 1926, despite poverty, rape, low paying jobs, teenage pregnancy, a failed marriage and cancer – Louise Hay rose above all these devastating experiences in her life to emerge as a the closest thing to a living saint – as the Australian media has dubbed her. She had a life so burdened with her own dark moments, yet Louise found the strength and wisdom within herself to become a stepping stone for others undergoing intense mental and physical trauma – leading them down a road of self discovery to better lives.
You can classify her as spritual, new-age of metaphysical She talks about your thoughts and words creating your future, as though they go out in the universe and are brought back to you as experience (see video #2 below).
Louise Hay become an author and has written several self help books. Her most famous book is “You Can Heal Your Life”. It is a book that has been translated into over 30 different languages and sold more than 50 million copies worldwide. Her first book, Heal Your Body, was published in 1976, long before it was fashionable to discuss the connection between the mind and body. In order to publish her early books Louise founded Hay House in 1984. By 1987 Hay House was incorporated and became a successful publishing company selling books, audio and video items touching topics such as Self Help, Sociology, Philosophy, Psychology etc. Around 130 authors publish their books through Hay House which has a staff of 60 employees.
As stated above Louise Hay never had it easy during her childhood and teenage years. Raped at the age of 5, a high school dropout, teenage pregnancy and a failed marriage – she had a background tought enough to break even the most positive people. But, Louise rose above these shattering situations. She joined a religious group and studied literature on positive thinking and how it could heal the body. By the early 1970s Louise took on the role of the Religious Science practitioner. She organized workshops and taught people that through spoken affirmations they could cure their illnesses. Louise also did a course with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi on Transcendental Meditation in Iowa. As if to test her new mental strengths, in 1977 Louise was diagnosed with incurable cervical cancer. In spite of their being no available medical confirmation, Louise affirms that within six months she was able to rid her body of this cancer through therapy, reflexology, nutrition, enemas and going on a mission of forgiveness.
While on her trail of helping people to heal, Louise compiled a guide detailing the mental causes of physical ailments and how such positive thought patterns could reverse illness. This guide led to the writing of her book “Heal Your Body” now dubbed “The Little Blue Book”. By this time Louise was actively counseling clients and conducting workshops and lecturing throughout the United States. Louise feels that people have it within themselves to change. All they need is a catalyst to get them started and she could be the said catalyst. Louise asserts that at the center of each person there exists love, joy and wisdom – beautiful feelings but seldom dwelt upon. A harmonious balance can be achieved by a well settled mind, a healthy body and good spiritual connection. If these aspects are brought to the fore people will no longer have to undergo negative vibes of anger, shame and guilt. Feelings of being judgmental and prejudiced will also disappear. Louise also teaches that by becoming one with healing power – illness, aging and other burdens which drag people down – can be conquered.
Other aspects of Louise Hay’s guidance healing included the fact that though life may throw many questions at us, we may not have the required answers. We should give ourselves time to listen to the inner wisdom we possess on a daily basis. By daily meditation we get spiritual growth. As recommended by many gurus and spiritual teachers, just sitting in silence is a valuable exercise. It helps to get in touch with our inner knowledge and perhaps find answers to questions that arise. Louise Hay is also involved in helping support groups for HIV and AIDS victims. Her work with people suffering from AIDS is well known and Louise was invited by Oprah Winfrey to appear on the latter’s show. She also featured in a “Donahue” show. Her book “You Can Heal Your Life’ hit the New York Times bestseller list and sold millions of copies. Through the positive philosophy and healing techniques that Louise teaches, millions of people have got a grip on their lives and achieved harmony in mind, body and spirit.
